It’s happening in the Design District: 17–22
May 2011!
Design
District Helsinki is made up of the area’s most creative names, from design
boutiques to restaurants and art galleries. In May, the district will celebrate
spring!
The week
will get started with theme days in shops from 17 to 18 May. On Thursday, which
is Buy from a Specialty Shop Day, shops will be open as late as 8 or 9 p.m.
Unique items and one-on-one service make buying an experience, and you can
often see the designers themselves at the shop, too! On Friday you can follow
our design guides on a tour of the district, and on Saturday we will gather in
the Dianapuisto Park. The programme for Saturday includes a market, music and
more fun things to do! On Sunday 22 May, you can start your spring morning with
a delicious brunch at one of the restaurants located throughout the district.
Come get to know the neighbourhood! A taste of the Helsinki World Design
Capital year 2012 is also in store.

20.1.2012WDC Helsinki 2012 has started and will open its doors to events, works and inventions
Some 180 different events have been planned to delight the residents of Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo, Kauniainen and Lahti: these will be touching and fun meetings involving design.
In addition to design, sometimes in very surprising forms and places, the events also promise to offer bread and circus games, performances, clubs, guidance for visitors, lectures, workshops and ideation projects.
Design District Helsinki´s programme during the weekend will be published on 25 January 2012 on our web site.
Take a look behind the scenes in museums, workrooms. Sit down with the designer at a pie bar or tea party, participate in the design processes intended for the general public.

Helsinki Design Week starts!
9.9.2011It´s that time of the Autunm again. Design is everywhere in Helsinki!
Helsinki Design Week and Habitare fair will temporarily make Helsinki the focal point of design events. Helsinki Design Week event calendar contains the exhibitions, seminars, shows, workshops, launches and other events for each day.

Night of Arts at Design District Helsinki on Friday 26.8.2011
18.8.2011At Design District neighbourhood, the programme for Friday night 26.8. includes a market, charity auction, music and having a good time together.

15-20:00 Design District outlet sale.
17:00 Charity auction of Design District member shop gift vouchers and items, all proceeds go to support arts education for children and young people.

The Night of the Arts offers more than two hundred mostly free events going on more or less simultaneously in the city centre and out into the suburbs, including outdoor cinema, street theatre, live music, and special programmes in bookstores and museums and galleries, which keep their doors open late.
RööperiFest on Thursday 18 August at 3pm-9pm
7.8.2011If you are planning a trip to Helsinki in August, don’t miss the RööperiFest street market and party. Rööperi is another name for the Punavuori district, and the event is going to be organized for the second time this summer.
On August 18th, 2011 RööperiFest is taking over Fredantori, the little square in the corner of Fredrikinkatu and Punavuorenkatu and some of the Punavuorenkatu street, too. It’s going to be a street market and a party with music perfomances, pony riding, tent sauna etc. from 2pm-9pm, for both children and grown ups.
No entrance fee – everybody is welcome!

30.5.2011Design Walk tours are guided in English from 6th June every Monday and Friday at 13.30 until end of August. The tours start from Helsinki Expert kiosk in Esplanade Park, opposite restaurant Kappeli.
Tickets 10 - 15 euros, with the
Helsinki Card only 10 euros for sale at the kiosk.

4.5.2011Design District Helsinki is a neighbourhood community in which creative people come together into one place. Members include about 200 businesses, from design boutiques to restaurants and art galleries. In May, the district will devote a whole week to celebrating the arrival of spring!
On Tuesday 17 May and Wednesday 18 May, there will be theme days in the district’s shops.
On Thursday 19 May, the shops will be open until as late as 8 or 9 pm in honour of Buy from a Specialty Shop Day. Small boutiques offer an alternative to large shopping centres – unique items and one-on-one service make buying an experience, and you can often see the designers themselves at the shop, too!
On Friday 20 May, you can follow our design guides on a tour of the district, and on Saturday 21 May, we will gather in the Dianapuisto Park. The programme for Saturday includes a market, music and having a good time together!
